Some of the features…

—High-definition digital restorations of the films
—Audio commentaries
—Ninety-minute 1964 episode of the French television series Cinéastes      de notre temps on Vigo, directed by Jacques Rozier
Les voyages de “L’Atalante,” Bernard Eisenschitz’s 2001      documentary tracking the history of the film
—Conversation from 1968 between filmmakers François Truffaut and      Eric Rohmer on L’Atalante
—Video interview from 2007 with director Otar Iosseliani on Vigo

For Sight and Sound’s Top Ten Poll 2002 (the poll is conducted every 10 years), four directors placed L’Atalante on their “best film” lists. To put this in perspective, five directors placed Ingmar Bergman’s Persona, Akira Kurosawa’s Ran, Carol Reed’s The Third Man, and F.W. Murnau’s Sunrise on their lists.

The poll also includes the best of picks from film critics. Eleven critics placed L’Atalante was on their lists, ranking Vigo’s work as the fifteenth best film – in a four-way tie with Jean-Luc Godard’s A bout de soufflé, Buster Keaton’s The General, and Orson Welle’s Touch of Evil. Impressive.
