“Against Ted Hughes” by Don Wentworth

Wentworth – in his own quiet way – is as strong a supporter of poets as anyone I can name. His poem “Against Ted Hughes,” a piece included in his marvelous collection Past All Traps (Six Gallery Press, 2011), is very close to perfect writing.

Against Ted Hughes

Leaves will reattach themselves
to trees before being a poet
will ever be more
important than
being.
