Jane Hirshfield reads “The Envoy” – audio file

Jane Hirshfield reads her work “The Envoy” – one of the strongest poems, as far as I’m concerned, written in the 20th century.

from “The Envoy” –

of which we know nothing.

Through them
the belled herds travel at will,
long-legged and thirsty, covered with foreign dust.
