personal favorites / poetry collections… Mountains and Rivers Without End by Gary Snyder / poem & audio
Mountains and Rivers Without End
A podcast of Snyder’s reading from the collection (Freer Gallery’s Meyer Auditorium, 12 July 2008).
“Old Bones”
Out there walking round, looking out for food,
a rootstock, a birdcall, a seed that you can crack
plucking, digging, snaring, snagging,
barely getting by,
no food out there on dusty slopes of scree—
carry some—look for some,
go for a hungry dream.
Deer bone, Dall sheep,
bones hunger home.
Out there somewhere
a shrine for the old ones,
the dust of the old bones,
old songs and tales.
What we ate—who ate what—
how we all prevailed.
Gary Snyder ~ one of my ALL TIME favorites! Looking at a copy of Regarding Wave as I write this!
For me, Snyder is genius.
Good day! I know this is kinda off topic nevertheless I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in trading links or maybe
guest writing a blog article or vice-versa? My website addresses a lot of the same
subjects as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you are interested feel free to send me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you! Terrific blog by the
way!
