One Response to “MC Escher: Images of Mathematics / video”
Escher was a fascinating, and multi-faceted genius. His work was totally unique, engaging, & mind bending. He pushed boundaries while exploring realism, surrealism, fantasy, architecture, mathematic principles in the execution of technically flawless and enduring visual art. He was also an incredible craftsman who applied the same exacting discipline he practiced as a mathematician to printmaking, much of which was rendered in woodcuts, which, to me, is mind blowing. As a public school Art Teacher, I found that his work captured the imaginations of my students and broke down the barriers between disciplines. Together we explored the concepts of tessellations, shape, pattern, repetition, tonality and illusion with a variety of wonderful and challenging projects, including interdisciplinary projects involving Math, Science, and Visual Art. Thanks for posting Escher! One of my faves!
