Five odd things you may or may not want to know so feel free to do or don’t – especially when you realize the I keeps getting in the way…
1. I have deep and marveled things to say but have found no way to say them.
2. I had deep and marveled things to say, and finally found a way to say them, but they were ridiculous, so I stopped talking.
3. I have no deep or marveled things to say – no surprise there – and saying nothing makes perfect sense. I say nothing better than something – even if that isn’t deep, and certainly not marveled.
4. I wish I had deep and marveled things to say which someone might remember thirty years from now, even if only for a moment – looking out a window onto a field, as if on the verge of almost knowing something, but then a knock at the door would set things right – voices in another room and the window empty – the field, stirred a bit in a cool November wind, then still.
5. Once, I tried to write something deep and marveled, but the blank page reminded me that the possibility of writing is always stronger than the words , so I put down the pen, closed my journal, and drank some coffee – dark roast in a cup with a leaf burned into it – or at least that’s what I remember.
